Well, the aforementioned "hit" gift turned out to be a miss. Oh, I got the "right" one, all right. Trouble was, the "right" one had something wrong with it. We had to return it. That was very disappointing. Good thing we still have those shovels.
So, he got $$ for a new guitar case and a $50 Sunoco card. Maybe next year.
Christmas was so very relaxing! We slept in (now that the boys are all grown up, we can do that), had brunch, opened gifts with Josh and Dave, Kim, and Caleb. Christmas eve dinner leftovers and other various snacks were the day's menu, along with paper plates and napkins, that completed the relaxed day.
Did I mention that John cooked Christmas Eve dinner? Yup, the whole thing. I had to work that day and so did Josh. John stepped up to the task beautifully with a menu of pork loin with asiago cheese and pear marinade, spring green salad with slivered almonds and cranberries and feta cheese, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Dessert was our traditional spiced maple pumpkin pie and assorted cheesecakes.
Boxing Day saw John and me on the road to the bigger city to the south. We picked up a couple of post-Christmas sales, including a beautiful Christmas-y tablecloth that fits our bigger table better. I browsed a sporty store for gift card redemption. John browsed for accessories for his techy (((XM))) gift. We stopped at our fav chocolate shop, where my biggest goal was to get the poor girl behind the counter to smile (eye contact is key to the smile goal, don't-cha-know). Goal reached. Dinner out. Trip back home. Ahhhh! bed was super-warm with our new heated mattress pad and new down comforter.
Another day off, then work, then today off. Just a puttering day. I had hoped to put my newest gift from David to use, but it needs a bit of assembly. Photo coming soon. You're gonna love it -- I do! We all got blessed with that wonderful new job of his!
